We have separated this unique flooring into grades to help you determine
the look and style of flooring you want in your home. Our grades are broad,
and our style of milling this resource provides maximum usage and the
ability of the installer to customize the look of the finished product
to the homeowner’s own specifications.
The beams much of this flooring is cut from are 21' feet in length and
were the subfloors for each of the 5 stories of this textile mill. Rather
than cut this valuable resource into variable length boards with what
some call defects, we leave them in manageable 10.5' lengths and pass
the final grading down to the homeowner and their installer. You can choose
to cut out the types of character marks you do not desire, or leave more
in for a more unique flooring look. Many boards will have more character
on one side or the other, such as with boards with nail holes in them
- these boards may show more nails on one side of the board and less on
the other. You can determine the best mix of these markings for your home.
You can also choose the side with the most coloring or best grain pattern
with our style of milling. Being "center-matched" means you
can turn whichever side up you determine is best for the look you are
trying to achieve with your floor. The result is a priceless floor - unique
to your home, with a look that will only grow better with time.
